We cannot overstate it: Cars, trucks, and SUVs that are maintained run much longer than vehicles that aren’t maintained. They also cost their drivers fewer dollars in the end. We do a lot of preventative maintenance in our shop. Here are the top services we perform that every automobile on the Red Lion, PA streets needs.
Change the Plugs
Spark plugs wear down and can cause a ton of problems once they do. The most annoying of those problems? Your vehicle keeps stalling or won’t start at all. Spark plugs should be replaced at 30,000 miles, 60,000 miles, 90,000 miles, and so on. Failure to do so will result in engine performance trouble.
Replace the Brake Pads
Keeping the brake pads new prevents additional, more expensive damage to your brake system. Signs you need new brake pads including squealing sounds at high speeds and grinding sounds when you slow down and stop. Plan to have your brake pads changed about every 50,000 miles or sooner.
Change the Oil
Of all the things on this list, this one is the service you’ll have done the most often. Oil changes are recommended every 3,000 miles for conventional oil and every 5,000 miles to 7,500 miles for synthetic oil. No matter the oil type you use, get it changed when it needs it to avoid burning out your engine.
Replace the Tires
Depending on the set of tires you bought, you will need to replace them after their guaranteed wear milestone; provided you have them rotated and balanced every 6,000 miles. Most tires will last about 30,000 miles, but if you buy high-mileage tires, you’ll get as much as 75,000 miles or more out of them.
Replace the Battery
Expect your vehicle’s battery to last about three years. Signs it’s wearing down include difficulty starting your car, truck, or SUV and dimmer headlights and interior lights. Difficulty starting your vehicle can also be caused by the alternator and the starter, but these last much longer than vehicle batteries do.
Replace the Lights
Your vehicle’s electrical system is powered by the alternator and signs its dying include slower response times, such as your power windows rolling up and down quite slow. The alternator could be just fine but your headlights, taillights, and interior lights will all burn out eventually and need to be replaced.
